Frequently asked questions//

How can I make an appointment with Miss Alice Bremner-Smith?

In order to book an appointment at your chosen location, please use contact details on the Home page. If you need a surgical procedure performed, this will usually take place on Thursdays in the morning at either the Lister Hospital or Fortius Surgical Centre.

How will I get things settled with the insurance company?

You will need to contact your medical insurance company to obtain an authorisation code before your appointment. Miss Bremner-Smith is a provider with all commonly used insurance companies.

Because Miss Bremner-Smith has worked with these companies for many years she is able to retain independence regarding her fee structure unlike newly qualified Consultants. This means she does not need to be ‘fee assured’ , nor is she on the ‘open referral network’. This does not mean you cannot make an appointment with her.

If you have any problem making an appointment via your insurance please contact Sara Norton directly on 02070997791 and we can normally resolve any issues.

We appreciate people have different levels of cover and different means of covering medical costs. Being independent means have some flexibility regarding the fee structure and can normally accommodate variations in cover that different insurance policies provide. We do not like to turn people away so please do get in touch if you are experiencing any difficulties in this regard.

What are Miss Bremner-Smith's fees for self-pay patients?

The standard fee structure is provided below

  • Initial consultation £300

  • Follow up consultation £150

The costs for treatments vary according to the nature of treatment required. A list of surgical procedure costs can be found on the PHIN website:

How to make payment if I am not covered by an insurance?

If you are a self-pay patient, you will be sent an invoice along with the clinic letter. This will take place after the consultation or procedure. You will then be able to settle by credit or debit card payment or via bank transfer.

When will I receive the clinic letter?

We aim to send you the clinic letter on the next working day. It will be sent either by email or regular post, depending on your preference.

If my insurance company is not listed, can I still be covered?

If you use a different medical insurance company the likelihood is that you will still be covered. Please get in touch to check this.Alternatively, you can also check with your insurer whether they would reimburse you directly.

Will my insurance cover the entire cost?

Most insurance companies will not cover 100% of the total cost and you may be asked to pay a certain amount yourself. In this case, you will be invoiced by a billing company called TrustHealth, who will be able to collect payment from you over the phone with a debit/credit card or via bank transfer. If you have any problems with this, please contact us and we can normally resolve the issue.
